| London Policemen
(1878-1891) The Metropolitan Police Register of Joiners (MEPO 4/335) lists policemen joining the force 1 July 1878 to 31 December 1891 (warrant numbers 62845 to 77318). The register is alphabetical, in so far as the recruits are listed chronologically grouped under first letter of surname (I and J, and U and V being treated as single initials). | Outstanding soldiers of the British Army Commissariat and Transport Department
(1881-1901) Each year the best soldiers of the department were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' | Naval Ratings Killed in 1914
(1914) The monthly lists of Royal Navy ratings killed from the start of the Great War through to the end of December 1914 are aranged alphabetically by surname and christian names, with rank, and official number. The lists include marines, reservists, and a few civilian canteen staff also killed in the conflict. Full names are given, except for a few cases where a middle name is represented only by an initial.

(1935) The 'Help Yourself' Society, inaugurated by The Stock Exchange Dramatic & Operatic Society, organized a picture judging competition for their Christmas Charity Fund, 1935. Of the thousands of entries received, 3,377 were awarded prizes, and there were also some consolation prizes. The prize list gives number (in order of merit), name and address.BROYD. (1937) The Civil Service Commission issued a monthly report listing certificates issued to civil servants of various grades on their initial appointment (whether after open competition, or without); assignments to higher grades; and transfers between departments. This is the report for June 1937: the sample scan is from the listing for post office clerks. The listings for the Post Office cover clerks, shorthand typists, typists and clerical assistants; female sorting assistants in London; male and female sorting clerks and telegraphists (geographical area always stated); night telephonists and call office attendants (area stated); telephonists (area stated); postmen (area stated); mail porters; assistant engineers and probationary assistant engineers; mail porters on the Post Office (London) Railway; skilled workmen; mechanics-in-charge; temporary postmen-messengers; storemen in the Stores Department; and sales representatives.BROYD.
