The Chinese Repository for 1845 contains this alphabetical list of foreign residents in China, giving name (surname and christian name or initials) sometimes with the addition '& fam[ily]', and italic abbreviations showing nationality (such as br for British, por for Portuguese, &c.), and where resident - a for Amoy, c for Canton, f for Fuchau, h for Hongkong, m for Macao, n for Ningpo, or s for Shanghai. ab means absent, and 'in several instances the place of residence cannot be determined'.

The India List and India Office List was compiled from official records by direction of the Secretary of State for India in Council, and published by the India Office annually. An appendix to the volume for 1905 lists retirements and deaths from the ranks of the civil service and the army in India for the previous year: the details given are name (surname and initials, and any honours); Service or Appointment; and date of death.

The India List and India Office List was compiled from official records by direction of the Secretary of State for India in Council, and published by the India Office annually. The volume for 1905 includes this Record of Services, corrected to 1 July 1904. It includes Officers of the Home Establishment of the Secretary of State, Officers of the Covenanted Civil Service, and those appointed under the Native Civil Service Rules, other Officers in Civil Employment in India whose substantive pay was at least 1000 rupees a month, and, with a few exceptions, all officers of those classes who had retired since 1886.

The India List and India Office List was compiled from official records by direction of the Secretary of State for India in Council, and published by the India Office annually. It covers civil servants and military except for officers drawing substantive pay of less than 500 rupees a month. Names shown in italics are those of officers in foreign service, supernumerary, seconded or employed outside their own departments. This gradation list of covenanted civil servants on the Bengal Establishment, arranged by seniority (dating back to 1861), gives these men (who are also to be found in the lists relating to the provinces and departments in which they were serving) with names in full, honours, and their substantive appointments as in 1905.

This list, for the Judicial Department of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, includes the justices and lawyers of the High Court of Judicature, North-Western Provinces, at Allahabad; the Court of Judicial Commissioner, Oudh, at Lucknow; the District and Sessions Judges, Assistant Judges and Small Cause Court Judges; and the Assistant Judges, Small Cause Court Judges and Subordinate Judges for Agra and Oudh in the Judicial Branch of the Provincial Civil Service.

The Law List for 1918 includes this 'List of Counsel, Special Pleaders, and Conveyancers at the Bar'. Each name is given in full, surname first; then the name of the Inn of Court as an abbreviation (G., Gray's Inn; I., Inner Temple; L., Lincoln's Inn; M., Middle Temple; and D. C. for Doctors' Commons) and date at which called to the bar. Barristers in practice are usually furnished with an address, and there are some abbreviated references to judicial awards and appointments. An asterisk signifies an Equity Draughtsman and Conveyancer.
