Records of the Treasury administration in Britain, America and the colonies, for January to December 1709. These abstracts of the Treasury minute books and corresponding warrants for this period covers a huge variety of topics involving all manner of receipts and expenditure, customs and revenue officials, civil servants, pensioners, petitioners and postmasters figuring particularly among the individuals named.

Inhabitants of Penrith in Cumberland
(1790-1797)
The provincial sections of the Universal British Directory include lists of gentry and traders from each town and the surrounding countryside, with names of local surgeons, lawyers, postmasters, carriers, &c. (the sample scan here is from the section for Nottingham). The directory started publication in 1791, but was not completed for some years, and the provincial lists, sent in by local agents, can date back as early as 1790 and as late as 1797.

Freeholders voting in Castle ward, Northumberland
(1826)
An election to choose two knights of the shire to represent Northumberland took place at Alnwick from 20 June to 6 July 1826. The candidates were Henry Thomas Liddell (L), Matthew Bell (B), Thomas Wentworth Beaumont (Bt) and Viscount Howick (H). The franchise included all freeholders of property worth 40 shillings or more per annum: each had two votes, but could plump for a single candidate. This poll book was published in 1827 and lists the voters from each ward: the freeholder's full name (surname first), residence, and the nature of the freehold (such as 'house at Corbridge'). The votes are shown in the right hand columns, with plumpers shown by a dagger. Castle ward included North Shields and the surrounding countryside.SPOUR. Cost: £6.00. | Sample scan, click to enlarge
