4 May 1764 this assessment was made, at 4d in the £, on 'lands and tenements in the parish of Strood, for and towards the necessary repair of the parish church', by John Boghurst and John Bowes the churchwardens and John Goldstone and Richard Otley the overseers. The assessment, recorded in Strood Church Book 'a ponderous old folio', gives the surname (sometimes with christian name too) of each tenant, the annual rent, and the rate of the assessment.
