Ackworth Old Scholars: Yorkshire Quarterly Meeting

The Quaker school at Ackworth in Yorkshire commenced in 1779. At the General Meeting of 1882 the Ackworth Old Scholars' Association was established, and a full list of members was printed in their annual proceedings. This list, corrected to 1 October 1898, gives full names (including married women's maiden surnames) and addresses, arranged, for those living in England, by quarterly meeting, and then with separate lists for England, Scotland, and other countries.  British artillerymen fighting in South Africa
(1899-1902)
The Queen Victoria's South Africa Medal was awarded (after her death, in the event) to all who had served honourably in the various campaigns in the Boer War. Returns were made from each unit, and consolidated into nominal roll, of which this is the one for the Royal Artillery. Confusingly, the ledgers used had originally been printed for a register of men transferred (or re-transferred after mobilization) to 1st Class Army Reserve. All the original column headings were therefore struck through, and the roll was prepared with this information: Date of Issue; Regimental Number; Rank; Name; Unit; Medal (a 1 indicating that a medal was awarded); [number of] Clasps; the reference to the source in the original returns, usually starting with AG for papers in the hands of the Adjutant-General, and 68/Art/ for the Royal Artillery records. The Steam Engine Makers' Society, a trades union, ended 1910 with 13,401 members in 144 branches. The 86th Annual Report gives a full list of members for each branch, followed by Travelling Expenses subsidised by the branch (with names and dates); Unemployed Expenses (with names and dates); Superannuation, Sick and Funeral Expenses (all with names and dates).PONTEFRACT. Naval Ratings Killed in 1914
(1914)
The monthly lists of Royal Navy ratings killed from the start of the Great War through to the end of December 1914 are aranged alphabetically by surname and christian names, with rank, and official number. The lists include marines, reservists, and a few civilian canteen staff also killed in the conflict. Full names are given, except for a few cases where a middle name is represented only by an initial.

Corporate Secretaries

The Chartered Institute of Secretaries of Joint Stock Companies and other Public Bodies was founded in 1891 and incorporated by royal charter in 1902. This membership list (corrected to 2 October 1928, and printed in the annual Proceedings), arranged alphabetically by surname and initials, gives the year of being elected Associate (A.) and/or Fellow (F.), and current professional office. Scientific Poultry Breeders

The Scientific Poultry Breeders Association was by far the largest poultry society in Great Britain, with 16,109 members for the year 1930-1931. This seventeenth annual register, for the year 1932, lists members alphabetically by surname and initials, with addresses. P. F. stands for Poultry Farm.PONTEFRACT.
