The regiment returned to England from the East Indies in 1881, having taken part in the Afghan war of 1879 to 1880, including the battle of Candahar.

The regiment moved from British Burmah to India in 1876, and took part in the Afghan war of 1878 to 1880, including the battle of Charasiah, the capture of Cabul, and the investment of Sherpore.
