This 'Exact List of the Poll At the Chusing of Knights of the Shire for the County of Middlesex, Taken at New-Brentford, on Monday the 28th of May, 1705' lists all the freeholders eligible to vote, parish by parish, with an indication on the righthand side whether each voted for Sir John Wolstenholme, baronet, (Wo) or Score Barker, esquire, (Ba), or not at all. B. Hotham and printed in 1912 in continuation of the volumes issued under the authority of the Historical Manuscripts Commission.

| Officers at the Battle of Almanza

25 April 1707 at Almanza in southeast Spain a decisive battle was fought in the war of the Spanish succession; the French (under the Duke of Berwick) shattered an Anglo-Spanish army (under the Earl of Galway) advancing on Madrid. In January 1711 the House of Lords held an inquiry into the debacle, and among the papers produced was this 'List of the Names of the General Officers and other Commission Officers that were at the Battle of Almanza'. Arranged by regiment, it gives full names of captains, lieutenants, cornets, quartermasters, chaplains, surgeons and adjutants. In almost every case the lists are annotated as to whether each officer was actually present at the battle (most were), and whether killed in the conflict. The list was edited by Maurice F. Charles Talbot, earl and duke of Shrewsbury, served as Secretary of State, and this material includes his correspondence in that capacity from 1694 to 1700. He then proceeded on an extended tour of the Continent, from 1700 to 1706, of which he kept this journal. This abstract of the archives from the first and second Session of the second Parliament of Great Britain, 16 November 1708 to 5 April 1710, was prepared by F. W. Lascelles and C. K. Davidson and printed in 1923 in continuation of the volumes issued under the authority of the Historical Manuscripts Commission. The source materials are the manuscript minutes of proceedings, called the Lords Journal (MS. Min.); manuscript minutes of Select Committee proceedings (Com. Book); manuscript minutes of the Committee for Privileges (Priv. Book); the Long Calendar list of acts public and private consecutively by regnal year; and the Folio Edition of Statutes of the Realm. The proceedings are cross-referenced to the printed Lords Journal (L. J.). The greater part of this volume is taken up with the papers laid before the House relating to an expedition fitted out by king Louis XIV of France in an unsuccessful attempt to establish the Pretender on the throne of Scotland in March 1708.
