Sailors and marines on board Her Majesty's ship Pearl
(1860) The China Medal was awarded to soldiers and sailors involved in the various actions of the war against China, in which this ship was engaged in 1860. The medals were either delivered on board or sent on in 1862: except that many of the men were no longer immediately traceable, and the remarks on the roll show that some medals were not sent on for several years, and some were never sent. Soldiers of the 2nd battalion, Manchester Regiment, fighting in Egypt
(1882) The war medal roll for the Egyptian campaign of 1882 is annotated to show those men actually present at Tel-el-Kebir, and thereby also entitled to the Tel-el-Kebir clasp. In addition, there follows an almost duplicate roll of men entitled to the Bronze Star granted by the Khedive of Egypt in recognition of the campaign. The 2nd battalion, The Manchester Regiment, embarked for Malta in 1881, and was transferred to Egypt in 1882 for this campaign. The troops remained in Egypt until October, when they sailed for the East Indies: this medal roll was compiled at Mooltan in January 1883.TRACE. Cost: £8.00. | Sample scan, click to enlarge
