Irish Bankrupts

Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette, issued monthly, included lists of Irish bankrupts to surrender at the Court of Bankruptcy on Lower Ormond Quay. The initial entry gives the name of the bankrupt (surname first, in capitals), address and trade, often with the phrase dlr. and ch., for 'dealer and chapman'; the dates of the stages of the official surrender, the name and address of the agent and the date of the fiat. Mathematics students at Cambridge University

Tripos lists or examination results for the year, arranged by class (Wranglers, Senior Optimes and Junior Optimes), and within each class in order of score in the examination (the names of candidates with equal scores are bracketed together, with the word 'AEq.'). Each student's surname and college is given: this list was printed in 1890, and was annotated with asterisks to show which students had subsequently become fellows of the university; and with footnotes showing those who became headmasters, &c., elsewhere. Winners of Dr Smith's Mathematical Prizes are marked (1) senior, (2) for junior. The Greek letter alpha is affixed to the names of those students who had gained first class results in the Classical Tripos; beta to those entered in the second class; and gamma to those entered in the third class. These lists are particularly useful in identifying for an individual the fellow-students who will have attended lectures with him; and, where from the college, are likely to have been even more closely associated by having been under the same supervisor. Merchant Seamen: Masters' Certificates

The Board of Trade 19 April 1847 issued this list of all the masters and mates in the merchant service who had voluntarily passed an examination, and obtained certificates of qualification for the class against each assigned, under their regulations. The table gives the date of the certificate, name (usually in full), class of certificate, and usually gives age, present or last previous service (name and port of ship, sometimes stating in what capacity), number of register ticket (if any), and the name of the examining board.WILSON. New South Wales Intestates
(1846)
The probate courts of the Australian colonies furnished returns of estates of deceased intestates, giving full name, colonial residence, supposed British or foreign residence of family (often unknown, or left blank), amount of the estate and how much had been disbursed and how. The date of death is often stated, and if by accident, suicide or crime. Names were carried forward from return to return until the estate was expended or exhausted. WILSON. Prisoners removed from Millbank Prison to the Justitia hulk
(1846)
The new prison at Millbank was used as a holding centre for convicts destined for the hulks: 'few of the adult convicts remain for a longer period than three months; and of those who remain for a longer period, the most part are criminals of the worst description, who are awaiting embarkation for their final destination in Norfolk Island.' The report of the commissioners appointed to inquire into the management of the prison includes a return of the number and general state of health of all prisoners received at the Justitia hulk, Woolwich, from Millbank Prison, from 1 January 1844 to 21 June 1846, giving: Sequential Number; Name; Age; Date of Reception; Disease or Sickness existing at the time of Reception; General state of Health since; Recovered, embarked or otherwise transferred; Died; Date of Decease; Causes of Death.

Railway Subscription Contracts

£121,255,374 0s 8d was promised by about 8,000 subscribers of more than £2,000 to the nearly 556 railway bills deposited in the Private Bill Office during the Session of Parliament for 1846. This alphabetical list gives the full names of the subscribers (surname first), description (i. e., occupation), place of abode, a numerical reference to the title of the railway, the amount subscribed to each, and total.
